DURATION: 2 HOURS

Zadar is one of the most interesting and oldest urban sites on the Mediterranean, and has been permanently inhabited since the 9th century a.d. Because Zadar is located in the centre of Jadran, it was an interesting attraction to many foreign conquerors. From the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the end of the First World War, it was the capital of the Dalmatian region. The city was ruled by Venetians, Austrians, Napoleon and Italians, who all left a mark, not only in history, but also in gastronomy, language and the traditions of the city.
In this guided walking tour around Zadar you will discover this region’s history, culture and cuisine while trying local delicacies and wines. You will walk the ancient streets with the local gourmet guide and discover stories about people that shaped them, streets that have inspired them and the country that has nourished them. From the Mediterranean breeze to the bold Morlaks from the hinterland, and even the mighty Turks whose culinary legacy still lingers in Zadar’s kitchens. Learn how to eat fish the Dalmatian way with a renowned local chef and pair it with the best Zadar wines. Enjoy the perfect combination of prosciutto and cheese just like the locals did, while sitting in one of the city’s most magical historical spots. And yes – ćevapi are also on the menu, a delicious reminder of the Turkish influence that forever changed Balkan cuisine. After a stroll through the city streets, you will try Zadar’s Maraschino, which has been traditionally produced in Zadar for five centuries. This unique, rich-tasting liqueur is made from the indigenous Dalmatian variety of Marasca cherry, and is adorned with the epithet “king of liqueurs”. We will toast to the memories and friendships made. Cheers!
