ABOUT DESTINATION:

Obrovac is a town situated in a very canyon of Zrmanja canyon, surrounded by steep cliffs. the river divides the town in two parts connected by the bridge. Due to its favorable natural-geographical position, Obrovac was a significant link between the Adriatic coast and continental Croatia since Roman times. In a very center of the city situated on the hill is a Medieval fort.

Zrmanja is one of the most beautiful rivers in Croatia, it is known for its imposing canyon, which is recognizable by its 200 m high cliffs that surround the river. The mentioned canyon is protected as a geomorphological monument of nature.

Novigradsko more is actually the big sea bay where mix salt and fresh water. The bay is surrounded by the Karin and Adriatic sea in one and the estuary of the river Zrmanja on the other side. The bottom is muddy and swampy and it is home to many fish species. The small town of Novigrad is located on the southern coastline of the bay.

Kayak tour down Zrmanja canyon starts at 9:00 in the morning from Obrovac. With sit-on-top kayaks you will paddle slowly and descend the lower part of Zrmanja river. Sometime after paddling you will reach the estuary of the river, and during this tour you will be accompanied by numerous birds that live in the gorges of Zrmanja Canyon. Besides you will have the opportunity to swim in the river Zrmanja, Maslenica or on one of the beaches of the Novigrad Sea.
