Zagreb – Krapina Kumrovec – Trakošćan – Varaždin – Vukovar – Osijek

TOUR PLAN:

Day 1. Arrival in Zagreb
Welcoming at the airport and transfer to the hotel in the city center, free time until 5 pm. At 5 pm we will go for a city walking tour. You will listen to some old stories that have been retold for centuries. Meet the latest European lighters who manually light the street lamps in the old town and take a photo in front of one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world with its two unique bell towers, which hight is around 105 m. After sightseeing you will go for a welcoming dinner in a traditional restaurant in the old town which serves local food dishes. After the dinner you will drive back to the hotel for overnight.
Transfer: from the airport to the hotel in city center 20 kilometer/45 minuta

Activity: easy city walk, cca. 1,5 hours, 2 kilometers in total 

Day 2. Zagreb-Krapina-Trakošćan Castle-Zagreb

Breakfast in hotel and after that drive to Kumrovec. Arrival in Kumrovec will be followed by a visit to Tito’s birthplace, which is part of the Staro selo (Old Village) Museum. In the museum you will be able to see how the old traditional villages from the beginning of the 20 century looked like. After seeing the museum the journey continues towards Krapina which houses the Krapina Neanderthal Museum. The largest site of Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis is situated in Krapina with over 900 human fossil bones and is about 125.000 years old. After sightseeing follows a short drive to a traditional restaurant where you are going to try local specialties and taste some lokal wines. After lunch our journey continues towards the Trakošćan castle from the 13th century located on a picturesque hill overlooking the lake and Hrvatsko Zagorje. The castle is today a museum owned by the Republic of Croatia with a collection of old weapons, furniture, paintings and graphics, and books and photographs. After visiting the caste we will return to the hotel for dinner and free time till tomorrow.

Day 3. Zagreb- Varaždin- Zagreb
Breakfast in the hotel and continuing the journey towards the old Baroque town Varaždin. By walking through the streets of Varaždin you will discover many mansions, villas, the oldest city hall in Europe made in Baroque and rococo style. In the town are situated 11 churches, 3 monasteries, a cathedral and the old town with numerous traditional crafts. You can also visit the city cemetery that has been recognized for several years as the most beautiful cemetery in the world. After sightseeing follows a short drive to a restaurant for dinner where you will try some local wines from their own production. After lunch we will return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4. Zagreb- Vukovar
Breakfast in the hotel and free time for walking around the city on your own and lunch in the town. In the afternoon departure to the Croatian east to the town of Vukovar. Check in and dinner in hotel. After dinner you will have free time to take a night walk along the river Danube. Until 1991. was Vukovar one of the most beautiful cities on the river Danube and since 1991. a city that every Croat honors.

Day 5. Vukovar
After the breakfast follows a city walking tour and you will find out how Vukovar became „The city of heroes“, where a small group of brave volunteers stopped, at that time, the third world power, the Yugoslav Army, which in the end destroyed the city. The damage to Vukovar is being compared to the one of Staljingrad. After the walking tour we are getting on a boat to start a boat tour on Danube from where you can enjoy the beautiful city panorama. Then you will drive to have lunch on a family farm and try some local products. After lunch you will go for a carriage ride through fields and vineyards and while the horses rest you will try some wines from this beautiful vineyard. After the carriage ride we will drive back to the farm where you will participate in the preparation of the most famous dishes of this area in a pleasant atmosphere by the fire with a glass of wine in hand. Then we will return to the hotel for overnight.

Transport: 10 kilometers/20 minutes, 2 hours carriage ride

Day 6. Vukovar-Osijek-Baranja-Vukovar
Breakfast in hotel and then a drive to the city Osijek. By arrival you will go for a walking tour through the old town that is surrounded by city walls with 4 gates. Most of the buildings are built in baroque style and you will also visit one of the most beautiful cathedrals made of brick. After the city tour you will drive through endless plains to the Ethno village Karanac for lunch. Karanac represents some distant, past times in which each house had its own story that is slowly retold from generation to generation. It has kept the authenticity and lifestyle far from the hustle and bustle of urban areas. After the lunch you will walk along the ethno village and then follow the journey to the winery Josić where you will have a tour through wine cellars and taste some wines that are produced there. After the tasting we will drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7. Vukovar- Zagreb
After breakfast, check out and drive to Zagreb. By arriving in Zagreb, check in and free time till 4:00 pm. After that you will go for a walking tour where the guide will tell you some interesting stories about the city, the people and some historical moments that are being retold for generations. After the tour you will go to a farewell dinner to share experiences and coordinate the final day of this trip. Return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
