ABOUT DESTINATION:

Starigrad is a small harbour town situated on the Velebit Channel, close to Paklenica National Park. It was first mentioned way back in Roman times and the settlement grew up on the foundations of the ancient town of Argyruntum. Today, however, it is the centre of the Paklenica Riviera. Paklenica National Park provides the backdrop to Starigrad. It includes two canyons: Velika and Mala Paklenica (Grand and Small Paklenica).

Zrmanja river is one of the cleanest and most beautiful rivers in Croatia as it flows through karst landscape of Velebit Nature park. After 69 km river flows into the sea, not far from the town of Obrovac. It is known for its beautiful canyons and the most famous and impressive one is the one between Obrovac and just before river flows into the Novigrad Sea. This canyon is characterized by 200 m high cliffs that rise above the river and protected as natural geomorphological monument.

Boat tour on Zrmanja river from Starigrad starts from the port in the center of the town. After you board in the boat you will start sailing in a traditional wooden boat from 1906 following the sea coast line. You will admire the views of mountain tops of Paklenica National park and after a short ride you will pass under the Maslenica bridge. The boat ride continues to the point where Zrmanja river flows into the sea. The boat will then sail through the Zrmanja River canyon, which is surrounded by 200 m high cliffs, and then turn around and return. Through the Zrmanja River canyon, you will sail all the way to the Novigrad Sea between Zrmanja and Maslenica, where you can spend your free time swimming. Then depart for Starigrad, and lunch will be served on board. The sailing continues towards Starigrad, and the return is scheduled for 3 pm.

What you will do

Board the boat at the port in Starigrad Paklenica. After settling in on the boat, you will enjoy a peaceful cruise along the coast of the Paklenica Riviera. It includes two canyons: Velika and Mala Paklenica (Grand and Small Paklenica). A creek flows through the 10km-long Velika Paklenica, and its steep sides are up to 400m high. Velika and Mala Paklenica are separated by a 7km-long, 500m-high plateau.

Departure towards Maslenica Bridge. Almost everyone considered it, and undoubtedly will continue to do so, to be the most beautiful bridge in Croatia, and its exceptional integration into the sparse rocky terrain, where vegetation is a real rarity, was particularly noteworthy. In fact, it was and remains a kind of Croatian cultural asset – a monument of contemporary Croatian architectural heritage.

The boat will sail through the Zrmanja River Canyon. During the cruise, you will enjoy the view of the over 200 m high canyon cliffs and the emerald green Zrmanja River. You will also see the location of the Winnetou film shoot. A turn before Obrovac towards the exit from Zrmanja is planned, when lunch is served.
