Zadar&#8217;s traditional cuisine is\u00a0named after Dalmatia region and it is unique representative of <strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mediterranean_cuisine\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mediterranean cuisine<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong>. It\u00a0includes\u00a0some of\u00a0Mediterranean ways of cooking, but it also incorporates\u00a0products and traditional cooking\u00a0from the Dalmatia region. It is based on simplicity, naturalness, sea products and agricultural products that are being produced on farms in hinterlands.<\/p>\n<p>According to researchers\u00a0Mediterranean and Dalmatian\u00a0cuisine is among the healthiest in the World and it lowers risk of various diseases, including obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Also, it is more likely for people following that diet to have a longer life.<\/p>\n<p>In Zadar, traditional recipes are passed for centuries between generations with a great pride. Dalmatian Pr\u0161ut\u00a0(prosciutto) and \u0160okol from Nin<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/magic-croatia.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dalmatia-prosciutto-zadar-what-to-eat-magic-croatia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48702\" src=\"https:\/\/magic-croatia.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dalmatia-prosciutto-zadar-what-to-eat-magic-croatia.jpg\" alt=\"dalmatia-prosciutto-zadar-what-to-eat-magic-croatia\" width=\"800\" height=\"599\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dalmatian pr\u0161ut (prosciutto) is a cured meat product, made from fresh pork ham with bone, dried on air during characteristic\u00a0&#8220;bura&#8221; North-East wind. It is protected by EU.<br \/>\n\u0160okol is another cured meat product made from pork&#8217;s neck and conserved in pure sea salt. It is authentic specialty made only in the town of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #333399; text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nin.hr\/en\">Nin<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0During July there is &#8220;\u0160okol festival&#8221; dedicated to this specialty\u00a0in which different families compete with their handmade \u0160okol.<br \/>\nBoth, pr\u0161ut and \u0161okol are often served as appetizers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2. Cheese from island Pag<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/magic-croatia.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/what-to-eat-in-zadar-cheese-magic-croatia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48709\" src=\"https:\/\/magic-croatia.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/what-to-eat-in-zadar-cheese-magic-croatia.jpg\" alt=\"what-to-eat-in-zadar-cheese-magic-croatia\" width=\"798\" height=\"585\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pag cheese is made from 100% sheep milk and described as one of the ten best cheeses in the world. What differs Pag cheese from others is\u00a0subtle piquant taste and smell due to\u00a0medicinal Mediterranean herbs that sheep eat on the pastures and then it all turns into milk. This cheese is listed in EU&#8217;s Designation of Origin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>3. Salted or marinated anchovies<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/magic-croatia.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/anchovies-what-to-eat-in-zadar-magic-croatia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48713\" src=\"https:\/\/magic-croatia.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/anchovies-what-to-eat-in-zadar-magic-croatia.jpg\" alt=\"anchovies-what-to-eat-in-zadar-magic-croatia\" width=\"800\" height=\"535\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anchovies are small fishes\u00a0thinner and narrower than sardines.\u00a0Their bones are removed and they are placed into simple marinade with oil, lemon juice, vinegar and typical Mediterranean seasoning to soak for several hours. Olives are gathered and larger are picked during harvest and then roasted on a medium heat. This area is specific because Zrmanja river flows into the Novigrad sea and\u00a0creates mixture of salty and fresh\u00a0water which is ideal for farmers. This is definitely signature dish for Dalmatia region and historically, the basic concept of the Peka extends back at least 3000 years to the late Bronze Age, when the bell or lid was made of clay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>10.
